Congressman Wiley Nickel has more than 20 years of experience practicing law while fighting for fairness and accountability in North Carolina’s justice system.

In 2011, Wiley founded The Law Offices of Wiley Nickel, PLLC in Cary. What started as a small practice grew into a successful medium sized law firm with a staff of four attorneys and three support staff. As a Wake County defense attorney, Wiley stood up for working people every day—making sure his clients were treated fairly, compassionately, and with respect under the law.

From the Legislature to Congress: Shaping Criminal Law in North Carolina

As a North Carolina State Senator, Wiley helped write the very criminal laws we follow today. Serving on the Senate Judiciary Committee, he worked to strengthen public safety while ensuring our justice system remained fair and accessible for everyone. When Wiley was elected to Congress, he sold his law firm to fully comply with House ethics rules.

In Congress, Wiley managed a team of 18 dedicated staff members and led one of the most responsive constituent service offices in North Carolina—helping thousands of residents resolve issues with the federal government.

The Wake County District Attorney is not a courtroom trial attorney — the Wake DA manages one of the largest law firms in North Carolina. The elected District Attorney oversees 43 prosecutors, more than 30 support staff, and 100,000 cases every year.
